Travels as Ravencara
I am inspired by nature in all her glorious guises and the ‘inner’ worlds I have inhabited in the past and inhabit in the present; also those of other wanderers I meet along the way. Like a magpie at times, bright things attract me so my use of colour can be bold, an expression of energy, life-force and joy! I have worked in a variety of media, paint, print, batik, tapestry, altered arts – books and text, art journals and more.
I am now focused on exploring cloth and stitch, having, in a way, traveled full circle and arrived back at my starting point. I love the process and the meditative quality of working this way. I have noticed too, that the tones I use have become more subdued in nature but, nevertheless, the same energy and inspirations are behind and, I hope, contained within the cloths I produce.
I love to work in what I term free-form which consists of random drawing, doodling, writing – letting the subconscious take over as in free-associative, stream-of-consciousness writing, sometimes with a definite theme in mind, sometimes not, the better to make those inner connections with self, spirit and the natural world. This applies very much so to the cloths I make as I attempt not getting in the way of the story emerging from each piece.
