Travels as Shiao Mei Mei

Here is the inspiration behind everything I do whether it is puppet making, doll making, art, altered art, journal making, writing, teaching, book altering, photography, photoshop, collage, living or breathing. I love the creative process; mine, yours, the earth’s. I just love to see new things emerge that weren’t there before.

While in college I worked at an orphan’s home, and I loved how the kids seemed to feel when they were working creatively. I wanted to understand that process so I went on to study and practice art therapy.

My experience of art therapy was basically using the creative process (predominantly drawing, painting, puppet making, doll making, and pottery) to help folks develop their creative problem solving skills, ameliorate some rather negative life situations, and learn to love themselves a little more. One woman I worked with explained it this way, that in the art room she discovered that she could love who she was, that there was something in the creative process that allowed her to love herself more, love others more, and be less dependent in her relationships. There was more freedom, confidence, and joy. Because of that, she was more capable of doing things for herself, which increased her sense of self worth and allowed her to be more capable; a very nice positive loop to get into.

As my own life journey unfolded I realized that life gives us all experiences and mysteries where creativity, resilience, and self care are key to solving. There are many paths to create this kind of resilience and self care. Art is my path. And the internet provides me with a very spacious art room. So here I am in the Traveling Artists’s Guild, SO looking forward to this journey and the mysteries which will unfold as we create.

About artrites

Some people would see only a middle aged woman, albeit fairly well preserved, but in reality, I'm an English writer and artist (order exchangeable) living in Germany. I'm a blended learning specialist, graphic designer, and train adult education teachers, when I can find the work. There is far, far more to me that even that, of course, but discovering that is the journey you can undertake by reading this blog.
